Here’s 3 things to consider when embarking on your landscape design project.

Hi! If you’ve made your way to our blog, then it’s likely you’re in the market for a landscape design. You’ve come to the right place. A landscape design is an awesome investment (if we don’t say so ourselves) and will provide you with a well thought out plan for your outdoor space.

Like any construction project, you want to go in with your eyes wide open. To understand the process and to get the most out of your dollars spent. The very best thing a landscape design will do, is control the outcome of your project. It will guide your construction budget and provide the detailed information to contractors to build your project to perfection.

Here’s a few things to wrap your head around when sourcing your design quotes.

Early budget conversations are critical.

I want you to understand that your budget is by no means, our target. We aren’t designing so that you can spend to the limit of what you want to spend. We want to help you control your construction budget by working closely with us to design something that is within your means.

Included in your fee proposal is a set number of revisions. Too often we see clients design it all only to realise they cannot afford it and then be forced to spend money revising and pairing back a design when a simple and honest budget conversation up front, could have eliminated the heartache early on.

Does your design require approval?

When we provide our initial proposal to you, it wont include the cost of gaining approval to build it. Why? It’s simple, different design elements will require approvals and some wont. Some projects will need to gain a Development Application and some will go through a private certifier and obtain a CDC for approval. We can do it all for you however, until we’ve completed your design we wont provide you with a fee for the necessary approval method. Keep in mind throughout the process that approvals are often required prior to construction and talk to us about it if you aren’t sure.

We design it, we don’t build it.

Whilst we’d love to be involved in bringing our designs to life, we’re sticking to design only for now. We can however, recommend a bunch of very clever landscapers who can build it for you. We’ll have had budget conversations with you throughout the duration of your project. Our understanding of costs associated with building elements of your design comes from experience but is only a budget. Speak to your designer throughout the design process as to when might be a good time to source construction quotes for the works. This will ensure you finish with a design, you can afford to execute.

And that’s it. Now that you’re nice and up to speed, feel free to give us a call. We’d love to chat.
